Hello! My name is Jeff Shafer and I am the owner and creator of Agave.I started Agave in 2002 while living in Topanga Canyon, a beach canyon enclave located between Santa Monica and Malibu California. My mission was simple. I wanted to make the best jeans in the world.
Having gown up in Southern California in the late 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s I was an avid Waterman. I spent all my free time surfing, skiing, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, camping, etc. Jeans and tee shirts were my uniform and I loved the way they made me feel.
Back in those days, the quality of denim and knitwear was much better than it what is readily accessible today. The jeans from Levi’s were made from ring-spun cotton and woven on shuttle looms. The knit tees were also made from ring spun cotton and often were sun bleached after sitting on the beach all day.
Agave is a California luxury lifestyle brand that creates denim and knit pieces that live up to standards that were created back in the day. What we call luxury today was what everyone had back then.
Today we use long staple cotton’s and ELS Supima cotton grown in the San Joaquin valley to make our jeans and tees. Artisanal mills located in Japan, Italy, Greece and North Carolina weave Agave’s denim fabrics. All final construction is done in Los Angles where we can closely monitor product quality, manufacturing compliance issues and environmental impact. It costs a lot more to manufacture in California but it’s worth every penny.
Our new site AgaveDenim.com is a brand new site that for the first time in our history accurately reflects the Agave brand and provides an Agave shopping experience. Many people have worked really hard to make our site what it is and I promise that we will continue to make adjustments and improvements so that it is even better in the future.
Thank you for your support of Agave over the past seven years. It has been a dream come true for me and I still love wearing the product myself.
